The Rosko Chapters - ep1 - Dinas bran & woodland walk

Following a slight change in our weekly routine, I’ve found myself with full Saturdays with our youngster, and with him recently turning 1 we’ve got some serious battles in terms of keeping him engaged and entertained!

The morning was now upon us and I feel somewhat overwhelmed, I’ve rarely looked after Rory for a full day around the house let alone taking out on a hike! No lists were made In preparation, weather forecasts were also causing me a complete nightmare with scattered showers across the UK, stress had well and truly kicked in before the day had even started!!

So it was time to go for a safe option. To an area I’m familiar with having spent time there in my early 20’s were I honed in on my sport climbing skills, off to Llangollen we go!! Upon landing on this idea I remembered the remains of an old castle nearby, a perfect little starter route for us to go and explore whilst being close enough to park should the weather turn on us, I quickly pinned a route on OS and left for the Welsh border deliberately delaying the journey to dodge the morning showers forecasted.

Upon arrival at Trevor rocks it was still raining which really dampened my mood. Short lived however as it knocked off in 10 mins whilst we got to nappy changes and rosko into the backpack.

A simple 2 min stroll took us to the base of Dinas bran followed by a pretty steep incline which was short lived at approx 10 mins of hard breathing!

We were there! Our first summit as just the two of us! With views to absolutely die for over Llangollen I sat back and reflected on how such a small hill I felt as though I just scaled Ben Nevis for the first time. I savoured the moment as we settled into the side of the castle remains following a scout round the area for sandwiches and some photography

After we finished lunch I quickly scouted round the local walking trail on OS maps and we the. Dropped off Dinas bran to the west and the h3aded north through a section of woodland to get the steps up for the day, it’s fair to say rosko was feeling a little tired and grumpy at this point who soo. Enough dropped off to a little nap aided by some rebate from the wind as we walked through the trees

After 25 minutes hiking through the woods we were sure enough back onto the Trevor rock terrace and near the van. I never thought I was capable of keeping myself alive in the hills let alone a child! Here’s to many more outings ☺️
