Welcome

Welcome to BM Mountains My Names Ben Mellor & I've been getting out in the mountains for nearly two decades. In short, I just cant get enough! I still cant put my finger on why, as a middle aged man with a 9-5 job keeps getting lured back to the UKs (and beyond) mountain ranges. But when I find out, I'll be sure to write it in my blog below :) I aim to give valuable detail and honest accounts of my ventures into walking, scrambling lesser known routes in Snowdonia, The lake District, Peak District & Scotland

The Rosko Chapters - Ep 12 - Stanage & Hathersage

So this weeks walk I was really looking forward to. I'm not out this week to conquer any peak as such, but to visit n area of the peak district that I've talked so much about in my younger years but never visited, Stannage edge. Stanage Edge, a premier gritstone crag near Sheffield, is a historic British climbing venue with over 2,000 routes spanning over a mile. Pioneered in the late 19th century, it became a hotspot for postwar development, notably with Joe Brown’s Right Un

The Rosko Chapters - EP3 - The Three Shires Hike, Peak District

I’ve been on full force this week buying some new equipment for our walking trips. However, as most new dads would know, that didn’t mean it was money spent on new fandangled gadgets or some more North Face logos to clog the wardrobe up. It involved new waterproofs and wellies for Rosko. Even though at the moment I am trying my best to dodge the UK showers I’ve found that Rosko does get cold in the wind when in his chair, poor fella ended up having cheeks like leather when we

The Rosko Chapters - EP - 2 - The Dragons Back - The Peak District

We’re high on the success of last week. I spent almost every free moment researching routes that would up the distance slightly and elevation whilst keeping Rosko safe and comfy. The Peak District was the preferred place as I had put a lot of time into toying with the idea the week before. A location came into the forefront of my mind whereby I made a failed attempt on a wild camp a fair few years ago…. Yes, I got scared in the dark lol! So the dragons back in the Peak Distri

The Rosko Chapters - EP1 - Dinas bran & woodland walk

Following a slight change in our weekly routine, I’ve found myself with full Saturdays with our youngster, and with him recently turning 1 we’ve got some serious battles in terms of keeping him engaged and entertained! The morning was now upon us and I feel somewhat overwhelmed, I’ve rarely looked after Rory for a full day around the house let alone taking out on a hike! No lists were made In preparation, weather forecasts were also causing me a complete nightmare with scatte
